My husband has paid premiums for a few years and never filed a claim. He was hurt at work and will require surgery. Due to it being a slower process due to worker’s comp and a delay due to the surgeon’s schedule, the required surgery will not fall within the 90 day period the policy requires; it will miss it by 6 days. This delay is of no fault of my husband. However, Washington National’s final answer per his agent is it will not pay. Very unsatisfied and disappointed.

WARNING: LOOKING FOR LONG TERM CARE INSURANCE WITH WASHINGTON NATIONAL? DON'T In 1994 I purchased a policy with Washington National and paid my premiums quarterly without fail for 24 years. Last July I was away and missed ONE payment without realizing it. They claim they sent me a follow-up letter (not certified) letting me know of the missed payment. I never received it. Come September, no matter that I was willing to pay any penalties necessary, I was permanently DROPPED. So much for believing that in my final days... read more

The policy is difficult to cancel. You have to either fax or mail in your cancellation request. When you call, they ask for all of these security questions to verify identity. Once you've proven it is indeed you, you can talk about your policy but not cancel it. I tried the fax method and they denied receiving it. The mailing method takes weeks. Would not recommend this company.

I have paid over $4,000 in premiums and had to cancel due to my finances. I was told over the phone that any unused premiums would be refunded back to me. That was not truthful. This is sad. I am a teacher and live paycheck to paycheck.

Every month for years they take out money from his bank acct & when I contact them, they have no one by that name or ss#. How are they taking out money if they don't have any policy holder by that name? One agent told me to contact board of ins., I did & they said they couldn't help me, another told me to cancel automatic withdrawals & then I would get a canncellatioon notice with policy #, but who will they send notice to if they don't have anyon... read more

The agents I dealt with were helpful and available when I was buying from them. As soon as my father died they were immediately there to sell my mother more insurance. However, when we needed help and to make changes they disappeared. If an agent made the mistake of answering their phone they would take my information and NEVER call me back. Finally, I was able to get ahold of someone on the phone from the company to help me.
