This was a disappointing dining experience. The crab soup came out hardened and congealed on top like it was put into the bowl long before. It also had no flavor and was too full of flour. The stuffed flounder was also flavorless. The peach cobbler for dessert was lacking in peaches and full of terrible flour dough. It did not live up to the advertisement.
Everything started out well, nice ambiance, the server was attentive,the soup was good, House wine good..but the entree was terrible. This was our first time here,we chose the prime rib and it was so tough ,au jus tasteless,potatoes like day old instant and barely warm, green beans ok. Maybe the chef had a bad day,got a late start on cooking the prime rib. The waitress didn’t ask how our food was and we didn’t bother to complain as it was our last day of vacation.
The staff was complacent. Service was slooow.
We have dined at Alexander's several times, and have always been pleased with the experience. On this day, the food was sub-par quality, the restaurant was much noisier than usual due to the accommodation of a party of 40 celebrating a family reunion. The filet we both ordered was bland, the vegetables delivered luke-warm at best. We were satisfied with the the service, but we didn't make the effort to have our meal re-cooked or replaced due to the large party being catered to at that time. Our family have been vacationing from Charleston once or twice a year at Hilton Head for the past ten years. Alexanders was always a go to restaurant. They reopened last year with new management and similar menu. In 2017 we had a very good meal and good service. On 11 July 2018 we were celebrating our anniversary with four grown children. My husband chose Alexander's to celebrate our wedding anniversary while we were in Hilton Head. I ordered the surf and turf and Ordered my filet medium well. Unfortunately, I received it charred and very well done. Our waitress was very apologetic and took it back to the kitchen to have another filet prepared.
