The food was ok - nothing to write home about. I was surprised no salmon on the menu. I ask what the soup of the day was - and the server - said oh - "I don't recommend that" I guess honestly is good. Of course I didn't order. I had shrimp and grits - which were substituted for the scallops. Shrimp was overcooked. Server didn't even ask if we wanted a dessert. Went to Alexander’s and booked an 8:30 time slot. As soon as we arrived we were quickly told to order a meal without even having time to look over the menu. My girlfriend politely told the waiter she wasn’t quite sure what she wanted and he demanded that “the kitchen needs to know” and he stood over her shoulder and said “so what will it be”. Food and service not up to reputation and cost. Will not be returning.
Food was over cooked brought main dishes while eating salad. Took main courses back then brought later after reheating. Fish was dry and overcooked. We did not eat and sent food back. Did not offer replacement. This was especially disappointing as this was our 50th anniversary dinner and spoiled our evening. We mentioned to the reservation people it was our 50th anniversary but the restaurant did not acknowledge our anniversary. Poor service and bad food. What more can I say?

My husband and I had dinner at Alexander's last night. We went for the early bird. The portions were adequate and the food was good. Unfortunately, the whole restaurnat had an overwhelming musty / mildew smell. We sat by the window where the wood molding was moldy and rotting apart. It was not very appetizing to have see duing dinner. We have gone to Alexander's many times and it is slowly going downhill. We will not be back again. What a shame to see the manangement let it go downhill.
The food was only decent and the prices are very high in comparison to overall quality of food. Asparagus was not seasoned at all. The bread was buy out and soggy. They dinner area has carpet and the restaurant when you walk in has a musky smell. There are much better restaurants on the island that charge less per entree and taste better.

I have been dining at Alexander’s during our annual visit to Hilton Head for over 30 years. I love the atmosphere and always looked forward to my visit. This time, just wasn’t what I had expected. I ordered the prime rib. It had no taste and was tough. Our waitress was extremely slow too. Our food was brought out by a young guy who had horrible body odor. Very disappointed. Many tables were attended to numerous times. Our waiter was absent most of the time. He never asked if we wanted dessert. Our food took very long. David needs training. We will not return since we’re used to a 5 star experience. We visit Hilton Head frequently and wanted to try something different. But it didn’t work out.

Very disappointing. Both of our meals were served at room temperature, staff was inattentive. They weren’t busy but waitress never came to the table to ask if our food was okay so didn’t have a chance to request it be warmed. And very expensive. We don’t mind paying for a good meal, but expect the food and service to be much better than our experience here. Will not be returning.
