Some of the companies they recommend were not reliable
So the compressor on my refrigerator went out last week. I put in a service request in and a technician came to the house and verified that the refrigerator is not working and he recommended that it be replaced. That was on Thursday July 30th. I didn't contact American Home Shield on Friday because I already know that they are slow. I didn't contact them on Saturday because they do not work on weekends. I had AHS for over 25 years. Cancelled them yesterday because they denied paying for my Hot water tank. Their customer service rep said the tank would need to be evaluated. I could not take the chance of having water pour all over my basement. So I got plumber to replace my tank and cancelled the service contracts that I had on two houses.

We have had American Home Shield since October 2013. We have had ONE good experience with them since that time. I finally cancelled out account with them today and will be finding a new Home Warranty company that actually cares about their customers and cares if the service providers they use are trustworthy or not. They contract with plumber whi is just looking to add charges, not covered by AHS. Plumber called a failing original 18 year old toilet flapper as having abnormal wear and tear because it was hardening. How long is a rubber flapper supposed to last...30 years!!!

They no longer offer you a list of contractors. You are forced to buy a service at a predetermined price, rather than negotiating with various vendors.
