I have had American Home Shield for years, but now they are not going to renew my contract. It is heartbreaking- as it has been a Godsend for me to cover repairs that I would not otherwise afford all at once, without racking up my credit card. I have called to find out why- and basically I believe I had "too many" claims. The reason I had so many claims on my AC is because they fix it until it is ready for the graveyard. I am deeply saddened and do not know which warranty company I should go with now.
I have been trying to get my AC repaired for over a month. The company they assigned first didn't do the install properly. I called AHS multiple times and was told each time someone from their "Contractor" department would call me back. Only to find out there is no such thing as a "contractor department". The AC company originally assigned came out 4 times and never fixed the problem correctly. I did not want the same company out again but AHS would not assist in assigning another company.
I own a second home and decided to use American Home Shield to help avoid major costs of system/appliance breakdowns and also to protect me from being price gauged by contractors when they see out of state tags on my vehicle.. well.. that was a mistake... Last year my AC system stopped working and the circuit breaker kept popping.. Very long wait to speak with rep (over 1 hour) numerous times. Refer our repair issue to a company that wasn't operating any longer. Second referral took 5 days to come to home.

Don't even think of doing business with American Home Shield if you ever want to speak with a live person or have an issue that requires prompt service. It works if you just need to place a service request online and it is not urgent. But if you have ANY issue that requires interaction with a live person or prompt service, forget about it.
