Dont ask is the rates have changed. Once you tell them yes let’s do the loan their attitude changes. They were down right nasty. Would not use again.

I had a nearly identical experience to that posted by Eric M. on 9/10/2019. Communication was nearly non-existent. I closed on my refinance with Better days before rate lock expiration, but it required constant phone calls and emails initiated by me, then follow ups after non-responses. Example: Closing Dept is open 7 days a week, except for the day of my closing when all I got was their voicemail. Streamlined, but unpleasant to deal with. I was told by my underwriters that I was lying about my employment, when lo and behold the loan was approved and my employment was exactly what I told them. All mortgage processes are complicated, This one was complicated and insulting. After researching fee's with various lenders we decided on Better.***. The entire process from start to finish was a pleasure. Their team answered all questions and were very patient with our purchases closing date being moved multiple times due to our sellers contingency to find a replacement home. They waited until 2 days before closing date to tell me that the loan could not be funded due to Fannie Mae guidelines. They should have been able to tell me within the first week if the loan could not be funded, and not had me spend hours of time and over a thousand dollars on inspection costs, appraisal costs, etc. Something is definitely wrong with their system for doing things.

I’ll start where it ended: the loan was fully funded, however, it wouldn’t have gotten to that point without my constant follow-up and follow-through with title/escrow, insurance, and agents. Better.com is not proactive nor efficient. The switching of various points throughout the process makes it challenging when you have specifics have already been verified. Additionally, I asked formally to speak with a manager several times and I have yet to receive a call and my inquiries were repeatedly ignored.

I was initially concerned about using an online refinance but the experience was excellent. The website was great throughout the process leading me through the steps and reflecting status, and I always had a personal contact that was very responsive (email or phone) for any questions that I had. The process was pretty quick too - really appreciated that!
