Brother Printer We like this printer. It arrived on time as item is as described. We were very tired of the high price of ink cartridges for traiditional printers and we happily changed to this one.
Won't print PDFs, will occasionally scan Since I started using this printer, it stopped printing PDFs (no amount of re-install drivers will fix this) and it has stopped scanning. In the beginning it would only scan immediately after system start up. If it had been over a day since reboot, it would not scan. But would scan after a fresh reboot. Now it won't even do that. I am trying to pawn this off to a neighbor / friend /family so I can buy something new. "Brother" tech assist has been no help.
My single friend asked, "Does it have a sister?" My wife provides technical support to clients up and down the warm, sunshiny west coast (where we live). She is constantly printing, scanning and FAXing documents up and down the countryside. Plus, all of our household accounting documents are scanned into her computer, something she would be very upset about if that capability were lost. Very upset. Needed front loading printer but this one is terrible. I hate this machine. I want to note it's necessary for my job to have 2 printers, one dot matrix, and a front loading laser. This printer draws so much power that every time I use it the overflow of power goes to the dot matrix I have and it causes it to vibrate. The printer is fast but this noise from vibration is terrible. I had an hp front loading laser before this for 10 years and never had a problem.
Good printer but not 5 star Most reviews are correct so the only reason this is not 5 star is the envelope feeder - only one envelope at a time and if the envelope is not feed exactly right you will get a "jam inside" message and you have to remove the cartridge to get rid of the message. The message should read "re-seat envelope". Took customer support 1/2 hour to figure out what was wrong. must stupid machine ever a nasty choice for me, too freken difficult to install and run and even after hours wont run called there help center no luck this machine is too complicated to be used at small office or home period so be very much aware before buying this, I am going to stay away from brother printers altogether in future this is a waste of money in real
paperless fax The reason i got this printer was for the paperless fax. Instead of wasting paper on a fax, it goes directly into the computer. Does everything i expected it to do.
Works as Advertised It works as advertised. End of story. I suspect those who complain about the longevity (or lack thereof) of the included toner cartridge never did the "shake and bake" (as I call it) to distribute the toner evenly throughout the cartridge. I have a VERY hard time imagining that Brother would risk alienating their customers (AND incurring endless lawsuits for false advertising) by short-changing their customers on TONER! CAN'T RECOMMEND THIS GREAT MACHINE After 3 weeks of usage: Great Machine EXCEPT very difficult to read the small 2-line NON BACKLIT LCD display, especially with no daylight. May sound minor but its not, especially when working the extensive menu choices. Even with contrast set to Max, it was a big struggle. Problem is the characters are not dark enough to read. No problem reading equal size characters from the same distance on my small 20 year old HP hand held financial calculator with dark characters. What a shame that such... read more
