Troublesome fax default I don't use this machine for a fax, but the machine is set to go to fax by default. I use the copier all the time and each time I hit start I get the double beep. Then I remember everytime I have to use the copier I have to push the copy button first. I don't like this feature, otherwise it's a great machine.
OK so far, but less than totally thrilled I ordered this MFC for its scanning capability, as I already have a perfectly good Brother laser printer. What you get in this MFC is a scanner for less than the cost of a dedicated scanner, with laser printing and fax capability thrown in for free. Glitch 1: The scanner is supposed to include OCR capability, meaning it can scan a printed document to an editable file such as a Word document. In my case, the OCR doesn't work. Not for business There is very little room in the finished tray for the ADF. You are going to be limited to about 5 or six copies without continually removing some of them. Also the manual feed slot is very difficult to use. We tried to make labels many times and all of them came out crooked. I had to upgrade to the MFC-8710 DW
Impossible to set up out of the box Be warned, this printer doesn't come with all the necessary parts to get it working. You HAVE to buy extra parts. It runs on either a USB connection (USB cable not included) or via a wired connection to a router (network/lan cable not included). This printer has been sitting on my desk for over a week as a glorified paperweight because I can't set it up. I ordered a USB cable and am waiting for it to arrive. Seriously. Returned There were black lines down the print copy. Did not like the paper tray because the paper kept slipping & add paper message appeared; paper tray was difficult to adjust.
Forget HP, this is the best printer brand I used to buy HP printers. Never again. Only Brother from now on. These things are tanks and workhorses. Once you go laser, you never worry about ink again. This machine scans and prints great for any business need. The extra cost upfront is more than worth it, as this printer will last for many years and only sips toner, while other printers guzzle ink.
Reset toner low I love this printer. I bought it because for once I needed all the functions for my store. I already had an HL-2220 at home so I figured I would buy a printer that used the same ink cartridge. Oddly though, this printer will start reporting toner low pretty quickly, even though it still has toner in it. TO fix this, open the toner door the press clear key then press *00, then press OK. This will reset the toner count and you can fully use your toner until it starts stripping.
Bought this for CPA Business - Does not Have Gov't Drivers for Tax Software Printer, Scanner, Copier, Fax works fine EXCEPT, this printer does not have drivers that the government requires to print tax forms. Imagine that! I have 32 years of IT software experience. I couldn't believe it so I called Brother and explained the issue. They were very slow to understand the problem. Not working right is not OK 3 stars says "It's OK". 2 stars says "I don't like it". So, truthfully, it is not OK and I do not like it, if the ADF fails to function correctly by reporting paper jam mid-scan or even after the page has run through and is sitting in the original output area. Still, I do feel it is a great price per feature set and should do exactly what I need it to do in this particular deployment. I will be ordering another one and hoping for the best this next time.
