If you are deaf or just don't want to talk to your dining companion, Fiorello is the place for you. Otherwise, be warned that at dinner there is probably no noisier restaurant in the city! No matter that the food and service are good, you can find just as good without the deafening roar.
I had a very disorganized experience at Cafe Fiorello on this visit. I have been to the restaurant many times before and always enjoyed it. This time there seemed to be a shortage of staff both in the front of the house and in the kitchen. The wait to get a table was long and disorganized. Cafe Fierello has been a go to restaurant on UWS for many years and I've enjoyed many good meals there. This brunch was not one of them. My omelet with fennel sausage and broccoli I was tepid and mediocre. I expected a sausage, not chopped up in egg. Although on line menu indicated a complementary drink, this was not forthcoming. From now on, I'll stick to the excellent pizza.
Service was PITIFUL! Seated immediately, per our reservation, and price food was delicious. But we waited 40 minutes for water and anybody to acknowledge us! Food took Forever to arrive. Too expensive to be ignored, will definitely go ext door to The Smith next time.
Sunday brunch: I have always had a very nice time here with service that understood that people often go to the theater after. We waited 35 min. to have our order taken, twice asked for bread, twice asked for water. I spoke with the extremely ineffectual maitre d' who officiated on the terrace; he was exceedingly uninterested and unhelpful. They comped our cappuccino which was too bitter to drink. What a disappointment from a restaurant that had been such a favorite!
Have been there on previous visits to NYC & the Met with good experience but that night not at all good. I waited 25 mins to even get water or waiter attention & then there were 3 different waiters with no communication between them. This was happening to other tables around me as well. It was very chaotic & disorganized atmosphere with manager not taking any active role. Food ok but overpriced. Much better experiences other nights at The Smith next door.
This is a restaurant for people who want to be packed in like sardines. Very limited menu for brunch besides. Never again.
Perhaps this has become too much of a local standby that is certain of good traffic, but it was disappointing. Portions were too large and for 3 of the 4 of us what we ordered lacked sufficient appeal for us to finish what was in front of us. Service is cheerful and good. Wish the food had been up to the same standard.
management stacks people on top of one another in a greedy rush to clear as many covers as possible to the total disregard of diners who are already seated. incompetent front managers insult diners who complain.
