I have rented through Cornerstone since 2014 and I just renewed again because I have had a positive experience since the beginning, nearly six years ago. I enjoyed living in West Wash Park where Cara was a kind and responsive Portfolio Manager. When I was ready for a change, Lucas facilitated my transition to a different property and answered all my questions promptly. I am looking forward to working with Jarret now. A number of factors made my decision to renew with Cornerstone Cornerstone an easy one.
First, as a prospective renter, front-end website makes it easy to browse apartments available by the criteria most important to me (i.e., cat-friendly, price, neighborhood). I like how the website has floorplans and pictures.
Secondly, the maintenance staff is AWESOME. They are professional, effective and friendly. The RentCafe resident portal makes it super easy and quick to submit a maintenance request from your phone, tablet or computer. For the past six years, any issues have been addressed quickly, usually within 24-48 hours. I am grateful to have lived in two properties that are clean in common areas and well-lit so that I feel safe.
Third, the accessibility and responsiveness of LOCAL portfolio managers makes a big difference. To have a specific portfolio manager who cares about your quiet enjoyment and quality of life truly differentiates Cornerstone from big, corporate, out-of-state management companies. For the last six years, I have felt "cared about" for my apartment-related needs as opposed to feeling like my communications go into a corporate black-hole. Cara Young has really been a great resource for our community.
Last, Cornerstone hosts fun events where you can meet people. I love the summer concert event at City Park. It is always great food and a fun atmosphere. Thank you!
My one suggestion to the company is to continue supporting recycling program and furthermore, enhance its sustainability impact by educating its new renters and existing portfolio about "what is versus vs. what is NOT recyclable." For example, encourage move-ins to breakdown cardboard boxes and recycle them instead of putting in trash. Similarly, encourage move-outs to donate unwanted items (furniture, clothes, dishes, books, etc.) to the many local thrift stores (Goodwill, Habitat ReStore, SustainAbility, ARC) and homeless shelters, instead of in the trash/landfills.
As the Cornerstone portfolio grows along with the population of the City of Denver, there lies an amazing opportunity for local companies, like Cornerstone, to make a positive environmental impact by educating its residents about the importance of recycling properly. That could be another way to differentiate from other companies and promote the environment so crucial to the character of Colorado.
