This place is downtown urban chic. Contemporary architecture, spacious apartments and lots of amenities such as fitness center, business center, sky-deck BBQ grill, outdoor fireplaces. Domain is my first apartment in Oakland. It is a very modern and luxury complex in downtown Oakland. I moved in since July 2013 and felt comfortable right away. I am very impressed with the art gallery at the entrance. Free espresso and free wifi for the residents at the Connect Café are great amenities. I have lived in Domain by Alta for about 3 months now. Even though there have been some things that have occurred i would have to say overall that i am very happy with Domain by Alta. I feel that they provide everything you could ask for from a coffee lounge with free WiFi and coffee to a 24 hour gym. If your downsizing from a home to an apartment and need to store items that may not feel feel no need to worry for they do have storage space you can rent out for a low price a month. I'd lean toward 2.5, but will be generous and give 3 stars to Domain. Pros: - Beautiful finishes for kitchen and bathroom. Granite counters, stainless steel appliances, very nice cabinets. - LOTS of electrical outlets (seriously, my tiny entryway has 6 outlets. Small studio kitchen has 3. Total for apartment? Probably 15+, that being said, there is only one in the bathroom. DO NOT LIVE HERE Scan the reviews for elevator issues and you'll see this has been ongoing for years and years, I wish I had researched it before I moved in. They have two elevator banks, with two elevators each. There has never been a point where all four elevators are working, and it's not uncommon for both elevators at one section to be broken. Another issue is frequently the floor 1 buttons are broken so you can't call the elevators from floor 1 (the most important floor) which is extra annoying because you can't acce... read more

Turns out the black stuff in the water has been going on for over 4 years now. Anyone who has also experienced this I recommend reaching out to legal representation, enough is enough.

Black stuff in the shower and sink water frequently, 3 out of 4 elevators never work or have some on going issue. ever since I moved in elevators have always had an issue. A lot of package thefts, if your item isn't from Amazon or too big to fit in the Luxor slot good luck. Hot water is actually luke warm, they tend to mark maintenance orders done if ur not home to answer the door even if nothing was done. A lot of small things that make day to day life miserable tbh. Don't recommend

Living at Domain has been absolute hell on earth. Save yourself, and DO NOT rent here. During the time that my wife and I have lived here, we had our bike stolen off of our 3rd floor private balcony where someone literally scaled the building to get onto our balcony and take our bike while we were in the apartment. Our car was broken into while parked in the Domain garage that we paid monthly to have a spot in. Great building, with a nice staff (Tianti, Preshante & Devon) and quick responsive onsite repairmen. Security at night is a plus. They host really thoughtful holiday parties in the residence lounge, which is a cool gesture.
