This place is downtown urban chic. Contemporary architecture, spacious apartments and lots of amenities such as fitness center, business center, sky-deck BBQ grill, outdoor fireplaces. Domain is my first apartment in Oakland. It is a very modern and luxury complex in downtown Oakland. I moved in since July 2013 and felt comfortable right away. I am very impressed with the art gallery at the entrance. Free espresso and free wifi for the residents at the Connect Café are great amenities. I have lived in Domain by Alta for about 3 months now. Even though there have been some things that have occurred i would have to say overall that i am very happy with Domain by Alta. I feel that they provide everything you could ask for from a coffee lounge with free WiFi and coffee to a 24 hour gym. If your downsizing from a home to an apartment and need to store items that may not feel feel no need to worry for they do have storage space you can rent out for a low price a month. I'd lean toward 2.5, but will be generous and give 3 stars to Domain. Pros: - Beautiful finishes for kitchen and bathroom. Granite counters, stainless steel appliances, very nice cabinets. - LOTS of electrical outlets (seriously, my tiny entryway has 6 outlets. Small studio kitchen has 3. Total for apartment? Probably 15+, that being said, there is only one in the bathroom. I wouldn't recommend renting here. From what I've seen, there are consistent issues with communication and it's really hard to get clear answers or timely updates when something comes up. There also seem to be ongoing problems when it comes to returning deposits, which just adds unnecessary stress at the end of a lease. What's most frustrating is the lack of follow through. DON'T LIVE HERE!!!!!!!! I never received my security deposit refund and have not received any update ABOUT ANYTHING!! Little to no update or communication from Pershante Hill even if he says he'll "update the following day." It's been 40+ days since I've moved out and I have not received my money back. I will now need to pay out of pocket to file a small claims to ATTEMPT to get my deposit back. I also got my car broken into in the parking garage. Living here is not that bad. I actually enjoyed it. They never heard a complaint from me. But when you move out.... I was told i was allowed to hang my tv as long as holes were less than the size of a quarter. Guess what when i moved out they charge me 200$. I tell them that tianti told i me i would be fine... they told me thats why he doesn't work here. Thats the demeanor you will get. DO NOT LIVE HERE Scan the reviews for elevator issues and you'll see this has been ongoing for years and years, I wish I had researched it before I moved in. They have two elevator banks, with two elevators each. There has never been a point where all four elevators are working, and it's not uncommon for both elevators at one section to be broken. Another issue is frequently the floor 1 buttons are broken so you can't call the elevators from floor 1 (the most important floor) which is extra annoying because you can't acce... read more
