First Call had been servicing the home when I bought it in the fall, so I trusted them from the start. There were major issues over a short time frame: 1. They mis-installed the $150 oil tank gauge, so that it didn't actually measure the oil. 2. The furnace stopped working during the coldest weeks of the year, whose issue was mis-diagnosed. A service technician expert in oil furnaces evaluated the furnace and recommended I change the igniter, plus filling the oil tank (he discovered it was dangerously low because the gauge... read more
A 92 year old friend needed heat pump service recently. He was charged $278 for a 120/240-24v transformer that sells for $39 on Amazon (markup 700%!). The heat pump has been running fine for 7 years with a simple 1H/1C thermostat (retails at approx. $35), but First Call decided he needed a $250 Honeywell FocusPro 5000 thermostat. First Call gave a 5% senior discount of $33.35 - whoopee! Somebody got ripped off, and it wasn't First Call Heating & Cooling!
Our furnace has died. Sales rep Jason said that outages are a priority. Promised a delivery on Oct 6 and installation on Oct 21. They were happy to have us sign for a sale, then ghosted us. We're now being told by some agent (Stephanie? Sara? Susan? I don't know, some S-name and when I got it wrong she got pissed off at me) that they "don't know" what will be sent from the distributor, or when. And we should expect a furnace in "maybe 60 days." I asked Jason to call me back. Left him a VM. Ghosted. Lie to get the sale. D... read more
Update - my furnace is still running fine and I had also fixed my AC following the original post. Feedback is check out YouTube for simple troubleshooting first.
Just caught First Call heating and cooling in a scam. REN came to service my A/c I paid the $189. He then said all I had left to pay was for the part itself, a new capacitor. Okay, he said the part is $160.38 I paid. When he left I took a picture of new part. I looked online and found same exact part new for $4.16, $7.88 on Amazon and $7.54 on eBay. I called back 3 times and got the runaround about all their expenses like travel, vehicles, insurance, gas ... Beware. Thanks a lot REN.
Had a leak in a clogged AC pump pipe. The serviceman came out, looked in the furnace and saw an old humidifier plate on the floor of the furnace that he said had asbestos. Said he could do no work on the furnace, it would have to be replaced. Nothing about just having the fallen plate removed or testing it for asbestos. Fortunately, I had a friend who is in the furnace repair business give me a second opinion. When you don't know much about furnaces, you sometimes get spooked by service people's opinions when common sense s... read more
Business response:
Good morning, it was never our intention to be deceitful and we regret that it came across that way. When loose fiber materials such as this are discovered inside an HVAC system, we have to address the situation with an extreme amount of caution due to the health hazards of asbestos exposure. Also as an HVAC contractor, we are not allowed to touch, handle, remove, dispose, or in any way disturb asbestos or suspected asbestos-containing materials. As a company, we do not give our opinions on whether or not a suspected materia... read more
My partner and I are in our earlier 20's and bought an old house together, so naturally almost everyone we've talked to about having work done on the house has perceived us as naive and tried to take advantage. This company is no different. After learning that the quote we were given (about $6,000-8,000 depending on the options we chose) was well above the national average cost for furnace replacement, we decided to get a second opinion. I believed the guy's explanations about why the cost was high, but still wanted to be su... read more

YELP REVIEW FAILURE!! Here is just another example of Yelp failing and misleading their customers. This reviewer was happy with the initial service and expertise that our technician provided but chose to give us a 2 Star review because they did not like the price on our FREE proposal. Our selling process has set prices and cannot be adjusted regardless of a customer's age. Again, this is a failure on the part of YELP for allowing reviews that are not based on actual services done.
Woke up to a non-functioning furnace. Called First Call as soon as they opened. Got an all day window for a tech to show up. Tech showed up, determined the "controller" was dead. I was told he would see what part is available and get me a quote either by the end of the day, or first thing the next morning at the latest. Three days later I had heard nothing from First Call. So I called them, explained the situation and was told that someone would call me. It's now a week after that call and still no one has contacted me. Nev... read more

Requested to have new ignitor installed on my furnace which took the technician less than 20 minutes. I was charged $109 for a diagnostic fee plus another $212 for the ignitor. The part is less than 40 dollars alone. There was nothing to diagnose as I requested a new ignitor be installed when scheduling them to do the work . After speaking with service manager about the diagnostic fee he informed me that the fee is only to cover them to show up to your door and anything after that is additional. I would have understood the ... read more

Sherman, I am sorry you feel this way. We quoted the pricing for everything we did, before we did it. We use flat rate pricing as most HVAC companies in our area do. You and I already spoke about this on the phone, but if I may be of further assistance please do let me know. Ryan / Service Manager 503-231-3311
