Woke up to a non-functioning furnace. Called First Call as soon as they opened. Got an all day window for a tech to show up. Tech showed up, determined the "controller" was dead. I was told he would see what part is available and get me a quote either by the end of the day, or first thing the next morning at the latest. Three days later I had heard nothing from First Call. So I called them, explained the situation and was told that someone would call me. It's now a week after that call and still no one has contacted me. Nev... read more

Requested to have new ignitor installed on my furnace which took the technician less than 20 minutes. I was charged $109 for a diagnostic fee plus another $212 for the ignitor. The part is less than 40 dollars alone. There was nothing to diagnose as I requested a new ignitor be installed when scheduling them to do the work . After speaking with service manager about the diagnostic fee he informed me that the fee is only to cover them to show up to your door and anything after that is additional. I would have understood the ... read more

Sherman, I am sorry you feel this way. We quoted the pricing for everything we did, before we did it. We use flat rate pricing as most HVAC companies in our area do. You and I already spoke about this on the phone, but if I may be of further assistance please do let me know. Ryan / Service Manager 503-231-3311
Technician was knowledgeable and friendly but company's policies are sketchy. Charging for "repairs" that are highly questionable. I scheduled a visit to diagnose the furnace/heat pump not working. Was quoted a price for diagnosis. Technician came out, did a diagnostic and was great. The problem was a clogged filter which I cleaned. I fixed the problem and it started working. The technician told me that if the unit begins working again, it's company policy to charge for a repair. Why? For the company to make more money o... read more
Business response:
Our technicians are going to make the recommended repairs to have your equipment run safe and efficiently, and quote you the repairs at the time of service. This is to avoid future breakdowns. You have the choice to not do a repair. If you would like to discuss this matter in more detail, as this review is very vague, please contact Ryan in the service department at 503-231-3311.
This place deserves a zero. Technician was rude and told me my heat was "Down for the count". As part of a real estate transaction I found that they told the buyer a new system would be $11,000. Thanks jerks! A new gas furnace averages $5000. I lost a lot of money in my sale, you can think that's my fault, but when you rely on a professional diagnosis and opinion, you should get a reliable one. What they don't know is that the buyer is having a new system installed- by someone else.
Business response:
PART OF THIS REVIEW IS FALSE: It does seem there is some confusion as you stated the "system" ball park quote was $11,000 which is accurate for a "system" consisting of a new furnace and a/c. A new "furnace" does average around $5,000 as you stated but this would not be a new "system". It also seems we did do a professional diagnosis and gave you a professional opinion as I can only assume that if another company is installing a new furnace they would have performed another diagnosis which ultimately led them to recommendin... read more
Their driver blocked our driveway and when asked to move he got mad. He finally moved and then blocked it again instead of pulling into the driveway he was delivering to. Then the driver then dumped his drink out the window in front of our house. This is an ongoing problem with First Call Heating and Cooling. Their supervisors are to notify their drivers and do not follow thru. Next time I cant get out of my driveway I will call the police
Business response:
Janet, I apologize that you were inconvenienced by our driver. Just as you and I discussed on the phone, the day of the incident I shared your experience with our driver that was on the route. There has also been notations made to the account as to avoid the issue being repeated. Thank you for pointing out an area we can improve. We strive to be courteous and professional at all times. Sincerely, Josh Foster Operations Manager
In June of 2016 we used First Call Heating and Cooling to install an air conditioner in our home. Matt Cobb was great to work with, gave us a discount due to my prior military service, and was very prompt with estimates. We were very happy with the sales process, and with the unit until this past week. In September of 2017 (15 months after initial install) we noticed wet carpet on the floor in our basement living room (the next room over from where the furnace is installed) and thought that one of our children had spilled... read more
Business response:
Moral of the story is the homeowner failed to change their air filters since our installation of a new air conditioner in June of 2016 (two cooling seasons, one heating season) despite having an extra air-filter in the home. Feel free to read below for more details to their claims. There are several issues with this review that are not accurate and here are the facts of this issue. 1. The system was installed in June of 2016 as the customer states and ran flawless in the summer of 2016 and all thru the summer of 2017 whi... read more
They took my heating oul order wednesday, lost my order and failed to tell me while I waited all day friday. Then as I call them back to find out what happened, they had no idea what happened but I can re-order snd it will be another week before delivery. I think not, their customer service and oil service is non existent with this company. I'll be taking my business elsewhere, since they cant remain true to their word.
I called my old number for REX. First call now has their old phone number. I wanted a service on my Furnace before winter. in 5 minutes of less my guy said my heat exchanger was cracked, and shut off my gas. With in 5 minutes, I was ringing off the hook, by sales. I called NW natural to recheck. NO CRACK. I now have a small issue with a valve. Called another company to fix it, or give me info. Scared First call may have been right, I did not tell them of any other info. It is a valve sticking. With out knowing anything! He ... read more
I would not recommend this company for any work on your furnace. I had great luck with First Call Heating & Cooling for over 2 years until this past winter. I have an older oil furnace. Until recently, we had a mutually respected relationship of service and payment during that time. However, last winter 16/17 they responded to a service call. The technician was unsure of the problem and told us he would have to send out a different technician with more expertise the following day. He mentioned the issue could cost anywhe... read more
