I had invited First Call to come and give me an estimate on repairs for my furnace. I knew my furnace was completely old and out of date, but I needed it repaired in a cost-effective manner at this point in my life. They immediately wanted to replace my furnace, stating that it was too old to work. But then when they gave me a quote for a new furnace, it was the same make. They are more overpriced than anybody else in Portland. I had four other estimates come out and the maximum estimate in comparison was $6000 cheaper for a... read more

Business response:

Michael, we're terribly sorry for the condition we left your furnace in. That certainly is not our expectation for ourselves. I see we have you on the schedule for a maintenance in December, so we look forward to rebuilding your trust in us. Thank you for continuing to choose First Call for you furnace needs, and we'd love to hear about your experience after the appointment.

Just got great service from First Call, for heating oil. We ordered yesterday and they delivered today! Friendly service. The driver, way cool. You can always get the latest price update by checking their website: https://www.firstcalloil.com/ First Call also provides heating oil furnace services - from oil furnace repair, installing or replacing oil furnaces, removing above ground decommissioned tanks and old furnaces. They've been open since 1939. Just took about 10 minutes to get our oil today, and that was it. Got... read more

Beware of this company - they are in the business of excessively charging for their services and still don't get the problem fixed! I called another HVAC company to come out and diagnose the problem - after 2 service calls and $1700 in charges from First Call (without telling them anything about what First Call said the system needed- including possibly a new furnace) and what do you know! It was due to a simple refrigerant leak in the exterior AC unit which was fixed and all good to go! The First Call technician told me ... read more

This company has failed to meet my expectations repeatedly. The Wi-Fi thermostat was never installed correctly and I got terrible support getting it rectified. The thermostat recently quit displaying anything. I called to get someone to help me, and they wanted to charge me multiple hundreds of dollars to just diagnose it. Absolutely terrible customer service for an existing paid customer. Do yourself a favor and never use this company.

Business response:

Good afternoon, This is unusual and I believe there has been a miscommunication here. Please call me directly. My name is Ryan; I am the Service Manager and I will be more than happy to remedy the situation for you. 503-231-3311. Thank you and I look forward to assisting you soon!

To respond to the response of my review from Brad, I lived in Oregon for 8 years and my mother and I owned the house I lived in where the despute happened. This incident occured in 2006 but the despute was later because the rain in fall caused the short to the garage and they did the work in the early spring so during the warm months it was still working. I also didn't know the short was from the damage until after having an electrician come out and inspect it, which was a costly thing for me to do at the time so I wasn't ab... read more

Business response:

We believe this review to be a mistake or a false review. Strange, according to "Keepin' It R.", this occurred years ago and all of their reviews are in California. "Years ago", we were still a company in the Portland Metro area in Oregon. Also, it seems very strange this occurred "years ago" and all of a sudden they feel the need to bash us from California, where all of their reviews are from. Paul, at our office gave his contact information but has not been contacted. There are so many inconsistencies with this story th... read more

We have had a maintenance contract with them for 5 years now. The technician who came out the last 2 years is fine, but the administrative staff are AWFUL. They have not scheduled service in a timely manner, we had to nag them. They sent out 3 invoices for the same thing - one after another - clearly unfamiliar with their contracts with their customers. Then when we advised them to review our contract - terms are payment due withing 30 days -- they just ignored it. They called me advising payment was past due, it was no... read more

First Call had been servicing the home when I bought it in the fall, so I trusted them from the start. There were major issues over a short time frame: 1. They mis-installed the $150 oil tank gauge, so that it didn't actually measure the oil. 2. The furnace stopped working during the coldest weeks of the year, whose issue was mis-diagnosed. A service technician expert in oil furnaces evaluated the furnace and recommended I change the igniter, plus filling the oil tank (he discovered it was dangerously low because the gauge... read more

A 92 year old friend needed heat pump service recently. He was charged $278 for a 120/240-24v transformer that sells for $39 on Amazon (markup 700%!). The heat pump has been running fine for 7 years with a simple 1H/1C thermostat (retails at approx. $35), but First Call decided he needed a $250 Honeywell FocusPro 5000 thermostat. First Call gave a 5% senior discount of $33.35 - whoopee! Somebody got ripped off, and it wasn't First Call Heating & Cooling!

Our furnace has died. Sales rep Jason said that outages are a priority. Promised a delivery on Oct 6 and installation on Oct 21. They were happy to have us sign for a sale, then ghosted us. We're now being told by some agent (Stephanie? Sara? Susan? I don't know, some S-name and when I got it wrong she got pissed off at me) that they "don't know" what will be sent from the distributor, or when. And we should expect a furnace in "maybe 60 days." I asked Jason to call me back. Left him a VM. Ghosted. Lie to get the sale. D... read more
