Food was good, the service was meh. The server who took our order was nice, but forgot one of our dishes. Also, an additional server seemed very rushed to clear our plates and get us out of the restaurant. We looked at the front door and didn't see anyone waiting so were a bit surprised to be rushed out during brunch. Nonetheless, the restaurant was fine, but I probably won't make it a meeting spot with a friend again for brunch.
Haven is a fun little restaurant in Brookhaven. We love sitting outside but it was way too hot this particular evening. The 'haystack' of potatoes are WAY too good!! We ordered salmon "medium" but it came too raw for us. I was surprised that instead of cooking us a new piece, they re-served us the 10 pieces that we broke up to see if there were any parts that were cooked enough. It kind of ruined the meal for me. Our experience started off well with a nice booth but quickly declined. The server was unfriendly and unhelpful. The butter lettuce salad was very good. The grouper was ok but little flavor in the preparation. The 30 day dry aged cowboy ribeye for $57 came out medium well when I ordered medium rare and when I mentioned it to the server his reply was "let me show that to the chef". Met my bestie here for brunch and just wasn't that impressed. They were out of the biscuits with gravy and that is one of my favorite brunch items to try at different restaurants so instead we got the beignets. They were okay. I think the server was in the weeds a little bit so the service wasn't bad but not the best I've had either. We went for my wife's birthday. The first 2 wines we ordered they were out of, but the waiter did not know. We had a horrible table by where the food comes out... It smelled just like grease, every time someone would pass by, they would hit her chair. My wife 's favorite food is French fries and this is the first time in 20 years I've seen her turn them down. We were drawn to The Haven by it's intriguing menu. Mussels, crispy oysters, and beet salad were outstanding. Braised short ribs were great too. The red fish special not so much. My wife only ate half, and as is a problem in most restaurants, no one inquired why she did not finish it. Medium rare steak showed up medium ( a $50 steak btw ). Very cozy place but way too many tables squeezed in and a noise level that made any conversation a labor. Hopefully only because it was Saturday prime time.
Great food but VERY NOISY - could barely hear the person sitting right next to me. Won't return because of this reason.
We were told to make a reservation at 6.30pm or after 8.00pm. When we came to the restaurant exactly 6.30pm none of the tables were occupied. The hostess put us just in front of the servants entrance with all the service people running behind your back as if we were sitting in the way. Great outdoor patio with amazing food. We had 3 different salads, 4 entrees and 2 desserts and all were wonderful. We were unfortunately very disappointed with the service. Hopefully, it was just an off night.
