WORST PRINTER EVER!!! I ordered this printer after doing a considerable amount of research. I was eventually sold on this Brother printer based on the amount of positive reviews. I will say the set up was easy. I only had a small amount of paper in because I was testing it for the first time. I printed 7 pages and it quit for “empty paper tray”. What A Piece of Garbage Bought it back in Sept and yes; it is their cheapest one and if you ever want to TALK with support; "fuggitaboutit". Changed internet providers and it will NOT work with AT&T. The printer will not connect to the internet. If I ever get it going it will be a miracle. I worked with AT&T net support, they couldn't help me, but if you happen to buy their cheapest (for home use), you will not get the phone number for help. Failed In Less Than A week We got this printer to replace our old LaserJet, and it was great - for the 4 days that it worked. It worked wirelessly and was able to connect to all of our devices at the same time. On the 5th day, however, it just refused to connect to any device. And also during this period, the app told us the printer had an update, but the link to it led to a 404 page. Great for the few days it worked.
Stopped in the Middle of a Print Job Without Warning The printer worked well for a month when it suddenly stopped in the middle of a print job with a replace toner message. The printer never had a warning that the toner was low and now I am without a printer. There is no way to bypass the message or finish the print job. The last page it printed had no problems with quality and there is no reason that it could not print another page. Also, replacing the toner cartridge after a month seems very sudden.
Difficult to install. The printer was difficult to install and link to our AT&T WiFi router. Called Geek Squad to install. Works intermittently. Talked to Brother support for an hour and a half, reinstalled printer drivers. Rep was helpful but in the end we were not successful. Still, intermittently fails with wireless printing from both the laptop and IPad. Printer cartridge only printed two hundred copies before running dry. no paper error after 1 month of use. the printer will say no paper and stop printing. I will remove tray and the tray is full. close tray and printing will continue until next use and would fail again.
Would not recommend I wanted a printer that was easy to set up. This didn’t come with a real manual, just a brief pamphlet. This thing goes into sleep mode in mere seconds while you are trying to set it up. Very frustrating. My last printer (Lexmark) lasted for years but I couldn’t get printer cartridges for it anymore. Even though the Brother printer is ON, it won’t print when I send it jobs.
Jams all the time with no jam This printer is horrid. The envelope printing feature nonstop tells you that it's jammed, then you open it up and there is no jam. It's seriously All. The. Time. Then it'll crinkle up the envelope like 20% of the time. So much for looking professional. If you just want to print documents and you never mail anything, maybe it'll be ok. I'll update this review if brother ever fixes the problem. Probably won't happen. TLDR: Sucks
My printer came with cables that were totally unuseable for this US product. This product was shipped from Grenada, a small island country off the coast of Venezuela. None of the included cable connectors fit into the printer sockets. They were not designed for this printer.
