About this business

Japanese Auto Masters was founded in 1982 by Tom and Cindi Potter in a small shop close to the Virginia Beach oceanfront. Tom originated Japanese Auto Masters to address the needs of consumers driving Japanese-made vehicles at a time when there were no independent repair service centers that specialized exclusively in all Japanese makes and models. We also service all Domestic vehicles as well.

Outstanding service this time and every time! David and his group always provide the best advice, service, and recommendations to keep my Landcruiser working in top condition!

Business response:

Sam, your Landcruiser may be seasoned, but it's still a strong and reliable vehicle and we hope to help you keep it that way for as long as you own it. Thanks for the review. Cindi, Tommy, David, Joe and the crew of Japanese Auto Msters

I brought my car in for an unexplained rattling in the engine compartment. They saw me the very next day, and had it diagnosed and fixed (a loose air filter cover) in five minutes. No charge. Why? They assumed it was something they had overlooked during a 30k maintenance several weeks before, and couldn't have been more apologetic. A class move from a class outfit.

Business response:

Bill, Thanks for replying and the great review. Sorry about having to return for the fix, but happy it was something so simple. Cindi, Tommy, David, Joe and the crew of Japanese Auto Msters

There are three things in life you need to be trustworthy: your physician, the person who cuts your hair, and a mechanic. When you find a good one, you stick with it. So glad to have found this place. I've never felt uncomfortable about the job they do, the estimates they give, or the opinions they give when asked for them. They are ALWAYS friendly and receptive. (Do they ever have a bad day?) I seriously don't know what I'm going to do when I move away from this area. Thanks!!

Business response:

Julie, the short answer is "don't move". The reality may be much different. Nonetheless I might suggest when you get where you're moving do some review research on the internet and perhaps you will find a shop with the qualities you are accustomed to here. Thanks for allowing us to be your shop of choice, and know we're gonna miss you. Sincerely Cindi, Tommy, David, Joe and The Crew of Japanese Auto Masters.

My husband and I own a 2005 Honda Odyssey and a 2008 Toyota Prius. I've always been one of those nerds who goes to the dealer for service, figuring that it's nice and tidy because they have all the records. I know I'm paying a premium price, though. This week, my beloved Ody needed its first "expensive" service (other than an oil change, etc.). The dealer quoted me $600 for the repair. My husband checked for reviews of other shops online and found Japanese Auto Masters. The reviews were fantastic on Yelp, etc., so we called ... read more

Business response:

Heather, We hired David a little more than a year and a half ago because he is professional, courteous and shares our belief in how customers should be treated. His conscientious approach to solving problems and trying to save the customer money while providing the best service and repair is a hard quality to find in any employee and we are grateful to have him. Thank-you for the opportunity to serve you. Sincerely Cindi and Tommy, Japanese Auto Masters
