The loan officer was very knowledgeable but never once indicated there would be cash needed to close until I was asked to sign the closing disclosure. When I reached out to the loan officer and his assistant for clarification, I received two different responses almost like there was no communication between the two before responding. The whole refinance process took close to two months to complete.
Documents were delayed
I shopped around. I found Better Mortgage to have a much cleaner client portal, clearer directions, and a more user-friendly interface. There's was a much better customer experience. That said, I went with PennyMac, Ultimately because of two factors: 1.) they had the lowest cost/rate. 2.) They were our existing provider. Better has an entire team of people working on one's loan.
PennyMac made my refinance easy as can be. I kept waiting to be asked to provide more documentation and only had to send one document. With other companies I’ve refinanced with in the past it was a cumbersome process that created a ton of stress, that was not my experience with PennyMac.
Everything went smoothly. Great experience.

I emailed and called pennymac multiple time everyday for over a month , no one called me back or replied to my emails.
