We've been to Redeye Grill many times and generally have had wonderful dinners. Friday night, however, neither the food nor the service were up to par. We waited nearly a full hour for our main courses, and when they finally arrived -- after we prodded our server -- my swordfish was overcooked and dry (despite my having told the waiter that I prefer fish moist and just slightly undercooked), and my friend's branzino was tasteless. It was clear that both dishes had been standing in the kitchen for some time. Despite our havin... read more
on a short visit to New York from Scotland we used open table to 'book' a table This obviously made no difference, we were 'parked' in the cocktail bar and encouraged to have a cocktail because the restaurant was unusually busy We waited over 40 minutes to be seated and another 10 before the order was taken Food then came in about 25 minutes but despite asking for the wine list this was never produced. The onion rings were good, the salad acceptable and the lobster roll warm with overcooked chips This restaurant does not hon... read more
I was going to theatre on 55th Street and had several choices of restaurants nearby. I choose Redeye because I wanted a good steak. I had a delicious Caesar Salad and ordered grenbeans to go with my meal, which I'm glad I did, and was quite happy with those choices. I really wanted the Ribeye but decided that would be too much, to sit through a play, on my tummy. I choose the Petite Filet. I was a bit wary when it arrived with and no signs of "juices" seeping out of it as I had ordered it medium rare. When I cut into it stil... read more
Redeye seems to have had a bit of a makeover, losing some of its charm…it was a very busy evening, with many large parties, etc. also, the introduction of a singer/piano player was an unwelcome addition to the noise level, & she wasn't very good !!. Recently revised menu has eliminated some of our favorites… Redeye was once our go-to place before Carnegie Hall/ City Center …no longer...
We arrived in town for the NYC marathon! We got a table in the back for the 4 of us. We had one waiter who apparently is the wine/water/plate clearer and cook. It was awful. No one helped him and he was working hard. However, our experience was awful for dinner in NYC! The arrogant greeters in the front did nothing to help our waiter out! I don't rec this place as there are way too many good gems in NYC! Don't waste a night on this place. The bar looks fun however with live music!
something peculiar was going on the other night at this usual favorite of ours, across from Carnegie Hall...waiters far too tired and preoccupied to help anyone..and particularly a table that was NOT drinking alcohol, and racking up a big bar bill?! We had colds, were taking pills and trying to get home before dawn! Everything was slow and cold and faintly unpleasant!
Title says it all... Paid way more than I expected, even for the location. The live music was the best thing about the place. Portions were small, service moved at the speed of frozen molasses... I won't be returning.
Overall disappointing evening with clients in tow. Our server was nowhere to be found, we had to ask for items multiple times, the steak had a bizarre taste, and even when we talked to the manager things did not get much better. I would not go back to this restaurant - and definitely wouldn't take clients that I'm trying to entertain.
I've always been a fan of the Red-Eye, coming often when I worked audio on the Letterman show. And they have always had an uncommon amount of noise, mostly due to the high, albeit beautiful, ceilings and large reflective surfaces without any dampening. But when we walked in for our most recent dinner, my group and I were a bit stunned by a singer "belting" out some emotional phrase at the top of his lungs, and amplified! Bottom line is, the food was quite good, as it usually is. The service was ok: Our waiter seemed way too ... read more
