outside service is a little slow
We have always counted The Red Eye Grill among our favorite go-to restaurants when we want a nice meal in a fun atmosphere. We were taking an out of town guest who had never been. The senior staff was very friendly and accommodating, but the waitstaff was confused, annoying, clearly untrained and paid no attention to our simple requests--"light on the dressing", "no blue cheese". The bus boy reached over people to get to dishes, rather than walk around the table. And then he stood for a very long time table side, piling up p... read more
Several items on wine menu misrepresented both years and price and overall wines were only average at best quality wise and were not cheap. Food was good but portions quite small for the price. Not sure if I would go back...would think twice with all the great places in nyc.
I have visited Redeye before and I forgot it it basically a "tourist" restaurant. Service was fine but not outstanding. The prices are outrageous. 2 people, drinks, shared appetizer and dinner - no coffee, no dessert, and it cost $170. And the food wasn't even that good. Sad this restaurant group takes advantage in this economy. I will not be returning or recommending.
Way over-priced
Used to go here all the time and LOVED it--favorite restaurant kind of loved it--and was expecting the same kind of thrilling experience. What we got this time, though, was different and too-heavily salted food, less choices, and disappointment. I was told they had gotten a new chef and did an overhaul since my last visit--not a good idea--and would be getting a new one yet at the end of the month. Perhaps the new chef will fix things and Red Eye can be a favorite once more. For now, not worth anywhere near the money they ch... read more
We were totally ignored, had to ask for menus, silverware, bread, and were never asked if everything was ok. Additionally the main course salads which were approximately $30 each were extremely small. Very disappointed, would not go back since there are so many other restaurants to choose from.
Almost everything is very salty. We only go there because my 7-year old daughter likes the place and gets fries - which are the best thing they offer and, oddly, aren't very salty. Don't leave a note to the maitre d' - they don't read these. The place is frequented by tourists, mostly, who are impressed with the decor. Nearby, however, are plenty of good restaurants - Petrossians and Molyvos are within a block and are priced about the same (although not a fine dining establishment for a real "foodie", the Red Eye Grill is pr... read more
When we sat down to eat at 1:15PM, We told the waiter we had a 3 oclock show and he said no problem. We ordered appetizers, then proceeded to sit for about 40 mins waiting for our food which arrived finally at 220. We had to wolf it down and then run to the theater. The service was not good possibly because we were seated outside.
