About four to five times a year we meet friends of ours in Manhattan for dinner. We take turns choosing the restaurant. This one was a bust. Ambiance was fine, spacious, comfortable, but the food - so fair to average. And the bill for whatever reason, was very high. Maybe the drinks. I don't know. Should have, but didn't really get examine it. My dover sole supposedly "came with vegetables" if you call 3 little pieces sprigs vegetables. Overpriced for averge food. Will not go back.
I've been to the Redeye a number of times in the past, and had good experiences. And the food, particularly the seafood, is very good. But this time the service was lackluster, like we were an intrusion. Our waiter seemed to enjoy talking to the other waiters, and did not seem interested in us. The location for those with tickets to Carnegie Hall or City Center can't be beat. But given the prices charged, they need to up the level of service provided.
I've been wanting to eat at this restaurant every time we go to Manhattan because it's very close to our apartment. On this trip, it was me and my teenage daughter and the service bordered on negligent. I ordered a glass of wine at the bar because we were told that, even though we had a reservation, it would be a 20 minute wait unless we wanted a "very cramped table." For tourists who don't know truly good NYC food. Overpriced and not what it used to be.
The food is nothing to speak about - standard steaks. For the price, I'd rather go elsewhere.
I really use to love Redeye Grill. But I feel the quality of the food has changed. Also, charging $5.00 for a soda is insane. Not sure when we will be going back. The place was very empty on a Friday...says a lot.
all was good--except we both ordered the sole and my friend had lots of bones in hers....
VERY DISAPPOINTED TO BRING IN A PARTY OF 7 FOR VALENTINES DAY TO ORDER SCALLOPS AND YOUR RESTAURANT TO BE OUT OF THEM AT 7:30????
