I loved all the groups. I really loved Demetrius and his classes, I took so many notes. Therapist Ian was good too. I wanted to put Therapist Karah in my pocket and take her home with me. I played basketball and helped pick up for Green Day. I worked out a lot in the gym. Tanya in the cafeteria was very nice.
Dr. Rahman took time out her day to listen and give me medical advice. Christina the therapist and Demitrius groups were well run and helpful. TA Geneen always went above and beyond to do what she could to make me feel comfortable. The teachers were great. I came to the realization that I have to apply the tools that Ive learned and work with my sponsor on the 12 steps.
Its been an awesome experience here at River Oaks. Its my first treatment center in my life, I've been struggling with addiction since I was 11 years old. I learned how to love myself for the first time in my life and that if I keep God at the forefront he will make a way for me. I loved all the group facilitators, they were awesome and I learned a lot. I went to the AA meetings and hit the gym. I spent most of my free time reading my books and my recovery literature. Ms. Loren my therapist helped by being a very direct woman, she looked me in my eyes when she spoke to me and that let me know she is genuine about her work. She gave me a lot of feedback which helped me grow in every aspect. Mrs. Mattie was helpful by giving me some nice clothes and sharing her testimony with me. I would have never thought she was a recovering addict and that gave me inspiration to know I can one day sit behind a desk and help others too. Rachel, Mark, Courtney, Casey (might have spelling wrong, but Heather would know who I mean.), Heather, Keedra, Jennifer, Mike, Frankie and Tanya. Special recognition should also got to Tashae Johnson, a TA. She greeted me when I arrived And gave me a send off with a hug in the transportation lounge. She got my WiFi connection straightened out. 5 Star service during the whole month I was there. She is a great ambassador for River Oaks.
My Therapist Trina was very on top of her game. Jennifer my case manager was also on top of her stuff. I came to get some tools and get my head on straight. I liked the comradery of the groups. I definitely did the gym in my free time. I learned to stay positive and not to be so hard on myself.
Trina the therapist and I had like an hour long conversation and she gave me some good tools to take home with me. I liked talking to all the different therapists because they all have different insights to offer. Dr. Vega helped me with my sick calls and she pulled me aside to talk to me and help find a new medication that helped. When it didn't work, she corrected it. TA Geneen and Jason the new TA really vibed with me. Sally the nurse is a sweet heart. The nursing team was very helpful. Some of the staff I cant remember their names to recognize. Mattie the care coordinator helped me with cigarettes on my first day here and talked me off the ledge. She gave me support and helped me handle what I was struggling with so I didn't leave. I did the professionals program while I was here and I enjoyed the classes with Dr. Murphy. I enjoyed learning how to deal with stress once I enter back into the work environment. I work in a high stress environment and I learned lots of coping skills to help deal with high stress situations once I return to work. I got to share with other professionals and there was a lot of other people in Healthcare in the program which actually made me feel a lot better because at first I was embarrassed to be in rehab but once I saw the... read more
