Ms. Ali my therapist helped me get a whole lot of stuff I had buried come to the surface so I could get rid of it. Tony was a great teacher. Demetrius was very inspiring. He really catches my attention. The groups made it real easy to be honest. The teachers have been there and done that. They had first hand experience. I enjoyed playing corn hole. This was a great experience. The staff was amazing. It was good to get advice and get perspective. I had great support from my room mate, if it wasn't for him I wouldn't have made it this long. We would read the AA book together every night, and even though he left, he still calls me to check in every day. My room mate was someone I could trust. The experience was the best. The nurses were great, always smiling. TA Rosby did my intake and he assured me everything would be ok, he took care of my stuff when I had to go to the hospital. Cecil helped me when I came back when I had questions. TA Frank was great as well as the cafeteria staff were always wonderful to me. Ms. Diana was real sweet. Mattie the Coordinator has been wonderful. She has a great attitude and helped me with clothing. She was very organized. She did what she said she was going to do when she said she was going to do it and she helped me with out expecting anything in return and I'm not used to that. TA Adrian was really nice and showed me around, he was very supportive. Demetrius is nice and keeps it very real. His groups are the best because he is able to connect with people and never lets it get boring. Volley ball and corn hole was fun. The gym is really nice. I learned that recovery doesn't have to be hard, there is a lot of people that have gone through the same thing as you. Relating to them will make it a lot easier.
I'm really proud of myself, I've built a really strong foundation. Saffiyah my therapist listens and challenges me. I love her. Without me even knowing, she gets me to talk about things I need to work on and she also praises the things I do well. I feel very comfortable with her because she helps me reflect. Leah my case manager was amazing. She asked a lot of open ended questions to really get a feel for what kind of assistance I need for when I leave here and now I have everything set up that I need. She made an appointment for me and even when she was busy she made time to talk to me and let me know that she cared. Demetrius is very charismatic and passionate in his groups. From the first day I got here Ms. Zella pulled me to the side and prayed with me. She was so humble and she saw the journey to get here. She sees me wanting to better myself and the potential and she recognized that in me. Mrs. Diana in the kitchen lifts my spirits. I had an amazing experience a RO. The classroom-style approach where we had groups and learned about our addiction, why we were the way we were, and how to develop good skills was very helpful to my recovery. I found this classroom/group therapy type approach more helpful than other treatment experiences I had been too, as I am kind of a student at heart. My counselor pushed me, and I needed that.
