Dr. Fahs was awesome, Dr. Vega was really cool. Nurses were great. I liked the sober community. I played some basketball and worked out which was cool. I came for detox and it was fun to have other stuff to do. There was a lot of individual freedom. I liked that they let you keep your phone and computer to watch Netflix and play games. I was able to keep my vape and my cigarettes. I got myself better physically while I was here. It basically saved me from going deeper into my addiction.
I really enjoyed talking to Dr. Fahs. Tony Gonzalez was very personable. Overall everyone was great. Things happen for a reason. My room mate was older and kind of like a mentor for me which was a blessing. I had a really good experience and everyone was positive. I've never been to rehab or experienced anything like this but it was really eye opening. It very humbling knowing that I'm not the only one that struggles. Cecil the TA was really helpful and Dr. Amisha was really cool. I was really just looking forward to doing my time here, but Demetrius classes talked about the future and what I had to look forward to and I actually got a lot out of his class. The gym and the basketball court saved me, I would have lost my mind if that wasn't here. I played a lot of volley ball too. It gave me a lot to think about, a lot to look forward to with the future, and with my family and my support system. Everyone helped me through.
While I was here I figured out my triggers. Big Frank and Randy were so nice and helpful. Nurse Mershawn was very good. The overall experience was great. The food was fine, I don't know why people complain. There were a few things like the wi-fi was slow. I liked all the therapists in general. The taught me so many coping skills and meditations. I think they should have a program like this in high school to teach kids these skills. I knew I couldn't stop drinking on my own, so I had to come here for some help.
The groups were phenomenal. I do not want to miss Amy, she has been amazing! She comes prepared. The groups have been very insightful and have a way of causing us to process what has happened in my life and focusing on the women and giving material just for the women to really open up about things they would not ordinarily share. I would watch people opening up who normally wouldn't and I'm so glad that people are finding some healing. When I first got here I didn't want to come, but now that I'm leaving I really don't want to go. Everyone here has been so kind to me. The TA's and the kitchen were so kind. I'm a pescatarian and they made sure they had my diet trays for me. The cook was great and they were extremely accommodating and respectful. I was so appreciative, I never had to ask because they already knew and were happy to care for me. If I asked for something they always made it happen. Coming here to River Oaks, its been like a luxury. I'm so grateful to have found them because they have all been very encouraging to keep in contact if I need anything, they all let me know that they are still there for me even after I leave and make themselves available which means a lot. I had a bad experience when I was reaching out for help back where I'm from in Georgia and was not able to find anywhere that could help me, I had a terrible experience when they put me out without any resources when I discharged. Richie the TA as well as Cecil and Keita were all very sweet and help out a lot. Cami my therapist for sure. Dr. Sina actually listened to what I had to say. He made himself available and always gave me help right away. It was so comforting to know that my doctor was there for me when I needed anything, it was such a blessing. Therapy wise I couldn't have asked for better. All the speakers were great because some of them had issues in their past life that they shared which showed they could relate to us. My main therapist Cami was wonderful, I could not have asked for better. The nursing staff I was split, most were very organized. I learned about things from my childhood and I learned from many of the other people here about what they were going through, some were worse but I could relate to several of them.
