I love when the nurses know exactly what they are doing and can get through a med pass without taking forever! Nurse Berri is kind, sweet, caring, and most important of all , she is quick! She is very efficient and friendly which makes getting assessments from her during my detox so much easier. She encouraged me to attend groups when I first arrived and helped me get over the hump of being new to treatment and not feeling so hot. Nurses like her make the world a better place.
My main provider while I was at River Oaks was Dr. Vega and she was very thorough and knowledgeable in my treatment plan. She helped me get stable with my anti-depressant meds. She is so sweet and sassy and has a great fashion sense! I just love her attitude.
Some of the groups are so funny and engaging with lots of realistic tools. They guy that I look forward to the most each week is Demetrius because his groups are incredible. He keeps his topics very interactive and talks about logical situations that I need to know to deal with life on life's terms. He offers real help to those who really want it. If you are looking for a real change, this is the place to get it.
I have seen so many activities during off time here that make this a more relaxing experience. They have kickball tournaments every day after class, and have tons of holiday stuff to do. TA Adrian helped to supervise the cookie decorating and the field day that we had recently with water balloons and egg relay race. I have never seen a more kind and compassionate staff at a facility like this. The floor staff like Tarshay definitely encourage me to do all that I can doo to get the most out of my treatment. If she sees people lingering, she will go by and make sure they get to group. She will even wake you up for group if you are sleeping. I think that the staff here truly goes out of their way to make sure you get the most our of this experience and want what's best for you in your recovery.
All the groups, therapy and case management has been amazing. I cant speak highly enough of Therapist Shannon who was my counselor, he helped me address 30 years of trauma in just a few sessions. He has a lot of knowledge on addiction and recovery when he would do groups. I was amazed at the results that I got by having him as my counselor and I will be forever changed and appreciative of his efforts to help me through my healing process. River Oaks has done wonders for my recovery and I am so excited for what comes next.
Counselor Amy does EMDR therapy and when we had our session together it helped me so much by helping me work through my childhood abuse. She is very supportive and is a great supporter of any type of recovery path that works best for me. I love her groups because she does really good groups on practical every day stuff. She really taught us how to cope with stuff that were going to deal with every day. Thank you to Ms. Amy!
Glenda literally knows everyone by first name, and let me tell you, there is A LOT of people here. She makes sure that we eat and have everything we need. She definitely will not let you skip a meal. She seems to really love her job and overall has a really good attitude for helping people. More people should be like her!
Everyone complains about the food here but I happen to like it and fell very grateful to have hot meals every day. The kitchen staff has been so kind to me. For those of us who play volleyball outside every night every class, Miss Angie in the kitchen always goes out of her way to put food aside for us and even puts them in nice little to go boxes with our names on them.
