The service was horrible! Our waiter was overwhelmed and didn't listen to our requests. He got so flustered and snapped at us, when we repeated what we needed. We had tickets for a 8:00pm concert at Carnegie Hall. We were seated at 6:10pm and received our dinner at 7:35pm. I’m guessing this restaurant is resting on past laurels and its location across the street from Carnegie Hall. The food was good, not great, the service was fair, not good, and the prices were, well, unbelievably high. Not a good value venue.
I have been a fan of TDA for 30+ years having eaten here dozens of times. In fact, just this past March we had a wonderful 90th birthday party for my father in the private dining room that was a magical experience. So what happened to us this past Sunday was really a disappointment. We were seated in the dining area to the back left as you walk in. It was quite noisy and crowded. Wine list when offered had pages torn out. Pinot Noir served at over-warm temp. Seafood Risotto was served at cool / room temperature, already congealing...and over-salted.
The food was luke warm when it arrived. There were at least five loud Birthday renditions. The spinach had too much oil and the other dishes were underimpressive. The service was initally fine but then it was difficult to find our server.
I have been to Trattoria Dell'Arte many times. I especially like going on the weekends when Ben is bartending as he is a gracious host. That said when I brought friends to dinner last week we had a terrible experience. We sat upstairs and our server who gave her name as Sarah was a miserable server. She never checked in on the table, drinks took forever, her utter contempt for her clients was very visible and she exchanged words with one of my guests. Uninspired menu, lackadaisical service and no sense of anyone who cared. Even the menus were old and tacky. It’s overpriced for a very mediocre experience.
All around bad experience. Would not recommend at all.
The food was mediocre, for the price point it was not worth it.
