Restaurant is near the theater district which explains how it has survived. An old school Italian joint serving family style plates on small tables. Atmosphere is very loud and waiters and patrons will bump into each a lot. Frankly food is disappointing. Only 3 of the 10 pasta options are made in house. The shrimp fra diavolo at $40 for 'sharing' came with disappointing tomato sauce and about 12 regular sized shrimp. Waiter was noticeably disappointed when we refused dessert and refused to box leftovers.
The service was abrupt, aggressive and rude. The host snapped and yelled. The waiters seemed cowed and we were rushed through our meal in 45 minutes with the entrees coming out before we'd finished our ONE appetizer (we were not lingering). The food was mediocre. The artichokes tasted bitter and old. The meat was dry and under seasoned. It was incredibly loud and we were packed in like sardines. It was not a good experience.
The restaurant was overflowing with people and outrageously noisy. NEVER AGAIN!!!
Mediocre and overpriced
This used to be my favorite restaurant. I came back on an after-theater date and was so disappointed. The service was mediocre, the food was reheated and not up to the standards that it used to be. The only thing that hadn’t changed was the prices and the canoli.
This place gets worse and worse. The beet and goat cheese salad was inedible with limp spinach, tiny specks of goat cheese and what tasted like mushy canned beets.
The space between tables is so small the wait staff must climb over you to serve. The noise level is not energetic it is simply obnoxious and the entire meal was served quicker than French fries at McDonalds. You can’t relax, you can’t converse. They should serve your food in doggy bags because they would prefer you leave the moment you get there.
So disappointing, its been a few years since we were at this restaurant. It was disorganized, hurried, totally nuts, the staff was rushing everywhere but to our table. The waiter was either overloaded or not experienced. Long periods of time before he would tend to our table. Bread delivered no butter or olive oil. Asked for it, 2 pats of butter were delivered no olive oil. Food was fair. My snapper livornase was prepared in a crock, tons of sauce over baked and sticking to crock. Supposed to be a flavorful but delicate dish... read more
If there’s such a thing as overly efficient service, this restaurant would qualify. From the moment we sat down until the time we paid our check was maybe 30 minutes. The food came out so quickly I felt as if they were trying to rush me out the door. There was no salt or pepper on the table, and I had to flag down passing servers for olive oil and Parmesan cheese-staples for most Italian restaurants. The food was okay- huge portions- and I didn’t even mind the obnoxious noise level or being tightly crammed into a table next ... read more
