It suffices to say that the chef and other staff should simply spend time in Italy to appreciate what the real Italian cuisine is all about: very high quality prime materials, simple preparations and not to add ingredients that do not belong to the true Italian recipes. For the specialty dish carciofi alla giudea it would be necessary to spend time in Rome, for pesto to go to Genova ecc. We spend many years living in Italy to be very disappointed by this restaurant experience in NYC.
I went here many years ago and it was a high end place to eat. Went on Christmas Eve and it felt like it was a Disney restaurant with terrible service and mediocre food....sad
We picked this restaurant because of its proximity to Carnegie Hall; a decision we now regret. Dinner for 3 ran us about $200 (for a shared appetizer plate, three pasta entrees, and one glass of wine per person.) I had their "famous" 100 layer lasagne, which for $33, you would think should be great. It wasn't. It was thick, heavy and dry as a brick -- clearly prepared days in advance and reheated til dry as a desert. My husband's ravioli was the same, and our other companion's pasta with eggplant was mushy and bland. The ser... read more
Awful wait or who did not listen to anything regarding our food allergy issues. The chef came out to speak with us and he also got the order wrong. Food was subpar at best.
So we brought friends and were very disappointed The octopus calamari app while the fish was nice the sauce was very fishy We had the yellow fun tuna and the sauce was very heavy/ sweet and overwhelmed the tins Service was slow and inattentive
The food and ambience are far from ideal. There are so many other options below or within this price range. Would not go back. This might be ok for family.
THIS RESTAURANT WAS RECOMMENDED BY A FRIEND. THE SEATING FOR TWO IS MORE THAN TIGHT. YOU HAVE TO PULL THE TABLE OUT TO LET YOUR GUEST SIT DOWN. THE TABLES ARE RIGHT ON TOP OF EACH OTHER AND THE NOISE LEVEL IS SO LOUD THAT YOU CAN'T HEAR ENOUGH TO CARRY ON A CONVERSATION. MY VEAL WAS UNDERCOOKED AND BLAND. OUR SERVER WAS EXCELLENT. OVERALL THOUGH, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT. IT WAS NOT ONE OF OUR BETTER DINING EXPERIENCES.
It came recommended, and it was a complete disappointment. The only good part was the warm greeting received when we entered. It all went down hill from there. To begin with, this is not a kid friendly restaurant menu. Our waiter was nice but not very attentive at all. Prices were way to high for a pasta dish. Thirty dollars for a slice of eggplant and papardelle pasta and some red sauce was ridiculous. No bread was served with the meal, and when we asked for it, the waiter said it was being cut. When it came out, you could ... read more
The lasagna was very dry. Portions are huge.
